RELEASE: Climate Solutions Caucus Co-Chairs Applaud Bipartisan Efforts on Permitting and Transmission Reform
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Climate Solutions Caucus co-Chairs Congressman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-02) and Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-06) issued the following joint statement praising recent bipartisan efforts in Congress to address the United States' critical energy permitting and transmission needs:
"We applaud Senators Manchin and Barrasso for developing bipartisan legislation to address our nation’s critical permitting and transmission needs. We also commend Chairman Westerman and Congressman Peters for their engagement on these issues in the House. The time is now for a comprehensive permitting and transmission reform package. Energy development in the United States is continually hampered by our nation’s burdensome regulatory process. At a time when energy independence remains an economic and national security imperative, more must be done to enact meaningful reforms. This sentiment has been echoed by Congressional Republicans and Democrats alike – now it’s time to act. As we near the end of the 118th Congress, we look forward to seeing bipartisan permitting reform legislation be considered and advanced," the co-Chairs said.
Reps. Garbarino and Houlahan also reaffirmed their commitment to working with their colleagues and ensuring that the U.S. meets its growing energy needs in a timely and efficient manner.
"In the meantime, we will continue to work with Members and staff to further knowledge, education, and cooperation on bipartisan energy policy. The energy needs of the United States increase with every passing day, and it is incumbent that Congress meet this demand with a commensurate sense of urgency. We remain ready and willing to engage on these important issues and look forward to helping advance legislative progress," they concluded.
The co-Chairs have strongly advocated for bipartisan permitting reform throughout the 118th Congress. In a letter led by the Reps. Garbarino and Houlahan and signed by 24 additional caucus members—equally split between Republicans and Democrats—they urged House leadership to prioritize these critical policy efforts.
